Sykes Leisure Projects is a small independent consultancy specialising in tourism, leisure, marketing and planning. The practice was established by Andy Sykes in 1994 to fill a gap in the market for a "down to earth" approach to consultancy, based on providing individual attention to problems and projects, and coming up with innovative but practical solutions at value for money prices.

Andy Sykes

Andy started his career as Project Manager in the family firm in Yorkshire gaining both managerial and development experience in the private sector. Andy then turned from "poacher to gamekeeper" when he moved into local government with Copeland Borough Council's Planning Department. At Copeland he gained experience of planning and tourism development issues within the remote area of Western Lakeland. He then ventured south to the hustle and bustle of the English Riviera to run the award winning Tourism Development Action Programme, gaining valuable experience in both tourism marketing and development in a premiere international resort. While working in Torquay, Andy was awarded diplomas in tourism and marketing.

The English Riviera 2000

Andy has an interesting background having worked in the commercial sector as Commercial Manager for a top tourist attraction, and as Project Director for Leicester Tourism Development Limited. This organisation was established by funding partners from the public and private sectors to implement a Tourism Development Action Programme for the industrial city of Leicester. While working for the Company Andy also headed up the Tourism Department at Leicester City Council. The successful initiatives introduced by him were largely responsible for Leicester Tourism Development Limited receiving the Chartered Institute of Marketing "Excellence in Marketing" Award in 1991.

Andy established his own consultancy, Sykes Leisure Projects, in 1994. His experience provides a balance between strategic marketing and development and hands-on applications covering marketing campaigns, feasibility studies and tourism strategy work. Andy has considerable experience in tourism and leisure and has lectured widely throughout the UK.
